In this internship you help to lift DNB's stress tests to a higher level.

You will have an impact

DNB's work is about financial stability and sustainable prosperity. As an intern, you can contribute to this. We use stress tests to assess the resilience of the Dutch financial sector. Think of the impact of the corona crisis, but also climate risks and cyber risks. We use models for this, which we continuously improve and further develop. In this internship, you will develop a specific part of these models.

This is how you do it as an intern at DNB

In this internship, you will study the ins and outs of stress testing, a widely used tool for risk management in the financial sector. And an important instrument for DNB. Under the supervision of one or two experts, you will work on the further development of a specific part of DNB's stress test model. Think, for example, of better predicting the effect of an economic crisis on the losses of banks. You do this mainly by performing quantitative analyses. Based on this, you come up with concrete proposals for improving the models or developing new models. You develop and implement the necessary adjustments to the models in consultation with the team.

What exactly are you going to do?

  • You study stress test models in general and those of DNB in particular.
  • You perform quantitative analyses, using regression, simulation, and prediction models.
  • You develop and implement adjustments to the stress test model. For this, it is necessary that you can work with Matlab.
  • You make clear (also for non-experts) how these adjustments improve the model.

This is where you will be working

As an intern in the Financial Stability division, you will join a young, highly educated, and enthusiastic team. Our 25 colleagues work closely together, with each other and with colleagues from other divisions. The atmosphere is professional, collegial, and informal. You work together with a small team of 5 to 6 experts in the field of stress testing. The team is responsible for developing models, performing the stress tests, and reporting on the results.

This is what we need from you

You show initiative and learn quickly. You are effective and pleasant in collaboration, but you can also work well independently. You work accurately and you have perseverance.

What else are we looking for?

  • You are a university student in econometrics, (financial) economics or another quantitative direction, in the master's phase of your study.
  • You can work with Matlab and have experience with (statistical) programs such as Python, R and Stata.
  • You have good written and oral skills in English.
  • You are available in Spring/Summer 2024, for a period of at least 3 months. The exact period and duration can be discussed.
